There is a recommended structure for Oxford Brookes University’s research projects, and there are 9 assessment criteria against which OBU RAP submissions are assessed. Among the top reasons of ACCA students’ failure in research, is that students ignore both the OBU recommended structure and 9 assessment criteria, or substitute either with their own. Hence, considering the need to highlight the cruces whose respect can save the majority of ACCA students from failure in RAP, relevant pages have been highlighted below for students wishing to pass in their first attempts:
- Section 5.b.xiii on Page36 of the Information Pack entails the recommended structure to follow.
- Appendix 1 on Page 54-56 of the Information Pack, discloses the ingredients to be reflected while using the above-recommended structure in the form of criteria.
I have mentored a number of students coming from some big crowded institutes having received mentoring in large classes and now looking for some mentor who can mentor their research efforts while appreciating their individual needs and difficulties. Last year students having suffered from bulk submissions came to me with shocking result sheets by examiner. I just wonder how the mentees of such crowded institutes could submit their RAPs while skipping the assessment criteria? I cannot highlight any other reason apart from the lack of individualized mentoring due to large class size. Further, in some big institutes, there have been trainee mentors as well. As I mentioned in my previous blog post that OBU research project is a rigorous process-oriented activity, which mostly yields through continuous feedback from your mentor throughout the project duration. OBU research project is not a concept that some knowledgeable mentor would explain you in the class and you will get the crux. It is a responsibility of the mentor to keep the mentee moving towards his objectives by asking the right questions, and helping them to think systematically to be able to exhibit the application of their concepts in a recommended manner. I have decided to publish a series of the blog posts, covering each of the 9 assessment criteria with actual submission remarks by OBU examiner, to help ACCA students better prepare their research projects.
